Great post! I just want to add my opinion that “real change” is a result of a dialectic. Screaming outside brings visibility to the issue and at its best informs. It can shift the conversation of a nation. Using the legal system also adds visibility and discovery via cases can force transparency. The legal system, eventually along with the legislative branch, institutionalized changes often starting in the street. It’s all real… We just have to figure out where we work best.

Thanks! I had dinner tonight with a friend who earned her law degree in an evening program while working and got some good feedback and advice. I’m not sure law school is the path to meaningful activism but I’m not sure it isn’t. I need to do some talking to folks I know. In the meantime, I have lots of options and I want to explore all of ‘em.

And I am super-glad I’m still working elections.

It seems to me that you do support the combined Constitutional system here – you aren’t advocating open revolt or defiance of the law as it stands today. Part of the US and state Constitutions is the amendment and appeal process, and it seems to me that this post demonstrates your acceptance of the system as a whole. So I think you can construct valid interpretations of the oath that don’t make you a liar.

The fact that you honorably executed your duties even as people voted against your interests right in front of you speaks volumes. You should be there, so that someone less honorable isn’t.
