Wow this is unbelievable. Sucks that this would happen to you and that it would push you out of the role of an election judge but I can only admire your integrity with respect to that role and how you handled this.

It seems to me that you do support the combined Constitutional system here - you aren't advocating open revolt or defiance of the law as it stands today. Part of the US and state Constitutions is the amendment and appeal process, and it seems to me that this post demonstrates your acceptance of the system as a whole. So I think you can construct valid interpretations of the oath that don't make you a liar.

The fact that you honorably executed your duties even as people voted against your interests right in front of you speaks volumes. You should be there, so that someone less honorable isn't.

I only want to say that I believe that the Constitution of the United States provides for equal protection under the law. Whether it has been successfully argued at the highest levels with regard to gay marriage is only a technical point. I feel that I could still swear that oath and not be "inconsistent".

Fortunately, this new amendment does not seem to affect my duties as an election judge. I'm not expected to uphold the Constitution in my bedroom, but only in my duty as an election judge.

I firmly believe that the new amendment is inconsistent with the national Constitution, so I am not personally forced to support or defend it.

I hope that you choose to stay on, not only because it is a shared experience for us, but because we need smart, enlightened people helping to keep our elections process fair and open, even if the ballot measures aren't always that way. We've seen what happens when smart and intelligent people leave this process. They are filled by people of diminished talent, which breeds corruption and incompetence. That can't help justice or democracy.
