I had a mechanic tell me recently that new - as in, the last ten years - Mercedes are not as reliable as they once were and that, in his opinion, they were no more reliable than any given American car. The conventional wisdom when I was a car-obsessed teenager, however, was that 60,000 to 100,000 miles was about when a Mercedes would be broken in and ready to rock. Totally!
