So, the switch only took a few minutes. From here, everything looks A-OK. If you find a problem, please email me.

I switched to Dreamhost. Godaddy pissed me off, so, here I am!

I’m pretty sure your mom’s got a problem, too.
You wanna know its name?
Its name is Aaron.

I too am going to make the Dreamhost switch, but sadly I have paid for hosting at GoDaddy through July. Were you doing month to month hosting or did you pay in advance? And if you paid in advance, would they credit it towards domain registration?
Hrm, indeed.

I had paid through the next couple of months, then said fuck it. GoDaddy does not credit you for unused months. They say so explicitly , but I only noticed it when I went to cancel my hosting. Oh well - it was worth it to switch. Totally fucking worth it.

Yes they do. I happen to work there and if you have prepaid for a year and then decide to cancel, you are refunded for the unused months. If you purchase the hosting and keep it for however long and then don’t do anything with the hosting, that’s on you.
It’s like renting an apartment and then not moving in. You rented the space, but it’s no one’s fault but your own if you don’t make use of it

Hilarious but true: the only thing in my referrer logs from today that could possibly explain your arrival at this post is a Googling of “fuck godaddy.”
At the time I canceled my account with godaddy, the terms explicitly stated that prepaid hosting expenses would not be refunded. I am not complaining about this; I knew what I was doing when I did it and made my choice fully aware. I was actively using the domain name at the time, also. I simply decided to change hosting providers.
